Maths

During this learning journey, the children will revisit the composition of 10 using concrete and pictorial resources. They will also revisit the teen numbers using tens and ones.  The children will learn how to count in multiples of 10 up to 100. They will learn to understand the position of multiples of 10 in the number system. The children will learn how to add and subtract ten from multiples of 10 and use their knowledge of number bonds within this to help.

Writing

In writing this half term the children will be reminded about sentence boundaries and how we punctuate them with a full stop. The children will then be introduced to using ‘and’ to join words and to use it before the last one in a list of nouns, verbs or adjectives. After they have used ‘and’ to join words they will be taught to use ‘and’ to join clauses. The children will then put this new knowledge into practise by using an effective mixture of simple and compound sentences in their writing.

 

Reading

In reading the children will learn what the features of a Non-Fiction text is. They will learn the features and how to use these to find information. The children will explore the difference between fiction and non-fiction and how to spot if a text is Non-Fiction.  

Science

The children will be learning to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. They will also learn to describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals including pets). 

Geography

This half term the children will learn to identify the location of hot and cold areas of the world. They will learn that the equator is an invisible line that is the hottest part of the world, and that the North and South Pole are the coldest parts of the world. They will also learn which pole is colder and why.

History

This half term we will be learning about the life of a significant individual (Neil Armstrong) and his achievements. They will also be learning to compare aspects of life in different periods.
 

DT

This half term the children will learn how to make a free-standing bridge, capable of supporting the weight of a toy car.

 

Computing

This half term the children will learn to give examples of when they should ask permission to do something online and explain why this is important. They will also learn to understand what algorithms are and how they are made up of precise instructions.

RE

This half term children will learn about change. We will explore what change might look like and how you might feel before and after change.  They will learn why Jesus changing people is important.
